An Inside Look at Chris Jordan

You joined our team in 2022. Why did you choose Optics 1?

Joining Optics 1 was an opportunity for me to be an integral part of a company with a promising growth trajectory for the business, the team of engineers I am managing, and my career all in the heart of New Hampshire.

As a people manager, you have the ability to have a direct impact on our culture. How was your experience integrating as a manager to an existing team here?

I am fortunate to be joining an incredibly skilled and talented team of engineers that bring a passion for what they do to work each and every day. As a people manager my goal is to continue to foster an environment where each member of my team can achieve their greatest potential and enable continued success for our organization. Integrating with the team has been going well and we are all aligned on the common goal of creating best in class solutions for our customers. We embrace opportunities to learn from each other and find ways to operate more effectively and efficiently while having a good time doing it.

Can you provide an inside look into the day to day of the Mechanical Engineering team at Optics 1?

At Optics 1 the mechanical engineering team is a core enabler of our business success as we take input from key stakeholders and other design disciplines and make it possible to produce a physical product that can be put into our customers hands. We accomplish this by using the latest computer aided modeling, drafting, and simulation tools, conducting analysis critical to a successful design, and then building the product to verify that it meets all requirements. Our engineers utilize in house 3D printing, laser cutting, and metal fabrication capabilities to produce parts and are routinely working with systems, optical, electrical, software, manufacturing, and test engineers to bring an entire system together and ensure that it meets user needs throughout its lifecycle.

How do you interact and engage with the various disciplines in Engineering?

To produce the high quality products that we provide at Optics 1, it takes an incredible team. My team and I are only a small, but important part of that team and rely on many others both within and outside of the engineering organization. Without those other disciplines that include everyone from our facilities and maintenance personnel to our material planners and everyone in between we wouldn’t be successful. When we interact with each other here at Optics 1 we all share that same sentiment and doing so sets up a culture that empowers each of us to help each other out in any way that we can.

Anything else you’d like to share?

Being closer to and spending more time in the mountains of New Hampshire has been a dream of mine since my first trip to Mount Washington to hike the Ammonoosuc Ravine Trail as a teenager. I am thrilled to be a part of the successfully growing team at Optics 1 and look forward to developing equipment that allows our customers to see and do things that they couldn’t see or do before.
